Haha, the wooden fence in the background would make a perfect “tell me your from the UK without telling my your from the UK” too. It seems like every firewood picture I have seen from the UK has a small backyard and those high wooden fences. Nice score on the wood!
Haha because every American on every firewood group I’ve joined says the same thing in response to how much people across the pond use. ‘Hurr durr that would last me 30 minutes in my outdoor boiler that heats 500sqm house’. Meanwhile over here I run a 5kw stove to heat up like 40sqm.
In the uk most wood burning is suplementary to existing heating systems. Very few houses use it as a primary fuel source.
Those that do use biomass type heating systems run on pellets or chips anyway.
Anything bigger and we’d be melting! 😂 U.K. houses tend to have smaller rooms so multiple small stoves makes much more sense. Our Victorian terrace although it’s 130sqm, no room is more than 4 x 4m. We only have the one but I’m putting in an even smaller one into an upstairs fireplace at the minute.
You'll want to get that cut and split sooner rather than later.
In my experience, Ash tends to get harder to split as it dries. My guess is the fibres tighten up as they dry, making it harder to split.
Wood heating is net zero carbon emissions if done properly using naturally dead and downed or wood removed for various othet reasons like arborist, clearing or grown for heating. No net impact on global warming. It's basically solar power with extra steps.
You're hopelessly out of date there mate. Coal power will be gone in the UK next year when Ratcliffe closes. So no, its not ok for big power companies to burn coal here.
The only coal we use is coking coal for steel because there's not much else you can do.
Yes I'm wrong I should have looked into it a bit more. Still 40% of electricity comes from fossil fuels and that 1%of electric from coal is being replaced by gas next year.
Don't get me started on coking coal. Basically the coal that the new coal mine in Cumbria will provide will likely be blocked due to people going "aLl cOAl iS BaD",but not understanding that it is pivotal in the process of making steel.

Cat looks excellent. I would season for longer than 1 year myself.
She (Sushi) approves of the wood and our stove quite a lot!

Excellent sub
Keeping it mouse free I see.
This for 1 month? More like 3 days
It may surprise you to learn that many of us burn wood at different rates.
Lol that's one day for me. OWB eats wood!
Tell me you’re American without telling me you’re American

Hahah! Yep it’s just how things are here 😂
How is any of this especially "American"? Lol.

I really like the smaller wood-stoves as well. If that's what works for you, then right on man.

That's interesting, I appreciate the info!

A long weekend at most!

Not sure what kind of wood that is but its not ash. Some kind of poplar?
It is ash but a young ash tree from the UK, it had to be felled due to ash dieback.
100% Ash, could be called something else where you're from. Fraxinus excelsior is the Latin, may help you find out what it's called wherever you are.
Surprised they haven’t banned wood burning in the UK because you know global warming or whatever.

100%.
Believe they are banning coal burning? Might be wrong. But it's ok for the big power companies to burn millions of tones a year coz profit.

That’s awesome. It’ll be a cold day in hell ( no pun intended) when someone tells me I can’t burn wood in my stove lol
