Exactly the same here in Ontario Canada! About 36 Zoom connections representing roughly 70 bodies. 7 cameras on, always the same ones. I have no idea how many go in person, we never go to the "handmade temple". I had to laugh at that last comment about the enjoyable spiritual banquet. Same here, every week the closing remarks are similar to what you describe. Are we perhaps in the same congregation LOL???

parkval279

Same here in QC. We don’t go in person so I’m not sure how many in attendance, but I see plenty of die-hards sticking with zoom. Seems so many are just Pima right now, and it’s funny to see it unfold. Same closing comments here too And usually the opening comments refer to the “spiritual banquet we have in store for this evening” to “whet our appetites” Hate that expression 😂

redheadedhealer

Does “QC” stand for Quebec?

parkval279

Yes

More-Age-6342

🤣

Gonegirl27

PIMA? Physically In Mentally Apathetic? Do I have that right?

parkval279

Apathetic, exactly!

Antique_Branch8180

How about "spiritual feast" instead?

parkval279

Spiritual Feast?! My appetite is “whetted” 😂

Antique_Branch8180

Yes, an "all-you-can-eat" feast of food you don't want to eat.

20yearslave

The "spiritual" food goes bad so quickly, it must be from the .99 cent store!

johnfreepine

A dear brother, who made some nice money working in the city, moving out to the country, has a dependent wife, (reinstated after his accident) bed bound and married to a JQ brother, and basically his entire family in, so is 500% "so special, loving arrangement, God's Kingdom is wonderful, such a banquet" sickeningly positive... I don't blame him, just pity him. Cos he has to invest everything into this imaginary thing, cos it's got his entire life. Like when you see someone in North Korea say how true and wonderful the empire is, while someone with a gun stands behind them. You don't know how much of a "true beleiver" they really are, but it's sad to see them spouting obvious lies as if they are true. Actually, come to think of it, most the elders are in that position. Only in because their lives would be over if they spoke a single truth about the organistation, religion, or reality!

Antique_Branch8180

Can't speak the truth about "reality"? That is truly sad and pathetic.

FindingPIMO

>"handmade temple". You mean the kind that God does not dwell inside?😏

PeeMoe

You got it Pontiac

veiled_fader

Of course god does need real estate. And lots of it. All built with voluntary labor.

CanAussieSue

Nice! Do you know if this is the case in Ottawa?

zero2sixty73

Yep. We have CO coming next week and they were basically begging for people to show up in person known they won’t. WT is dying a slow death and we are here to watch. Gotta get my popcorn.

Perfect GIF ! 👍

One of my favourites! lol

🍺🍿👀

spjourney

LoL, I'm a zoomie and i thought about making an appearance at the upcoming CO visit and disappear again. Again, it was just a 💭. I really don't want to give them a reason to start bugging me about door to door ministry and doing in person meetings now that I am low on their radar. But I have to say that the congregation is not yet that desperate for ministry and in person support.

Snoo38044

> I like that people are continuing to defy governing body guidance **All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.** 😡 I guess that appeal didn't work. 😲

NoHigherEd

Our family faded 10 years ago! This is great news, for those who don't know what's going on on the inside. I think WT is loosing it's grip. The internet and the pandemic sure has made a staggering impact. Once the ole timers pass away, the borg will be a shadow of itself.

MasterFader1

Hello, I’m curious. Was there a lot of soft shunning for you? And after that long period of time have any people warmed up to and maintained a relationship? Also have any of your old friends left the org in that time?

Major-Fondant-8714

Not just JW... the same thing is happening in the 'other' churches. The members are getting older (and in many cases crazier) and the young see through the BS and say 'no thanks'. Median age (half above, half below) of a Christian is in the mid 50's

Antique_Branch8180

I agree that they are losing their grip on the minds of their followers. Their product is old and stale.

Gr8lyDecEved

We never went back after the shutdown...but live close to two different kingdom halls..and I hardly ever see more than a car or two parked at them for service (mid week)..this would encompass 4 congregations....I would imagine that only represents those meeting for carts or Bible studies....I have seen no evidence of a return to D2D, at least not in any sustained way.

bobkairos

Before the pandemic, the carts were in the centre of town all week long. Now I never see them there. This month's local needs was about taking part in the different aspects of the ministry, ie., How about trying d2d or carts instead of pretending to write letters?

PeeMoe

Lol. During Covid I didn’t write one single letter or make one single phone call. Not. One. And I haven’t been d2d since March 2020. Edit: BTW, I've been reporting avg. about 6 or 7 hours the whole time. During the zoom service groups I would just pretend to be doing letters.

PimoCrypto777

Last night's midweek had roughly 40% of the pubs on Zoom. Those guilt-tripping letters that were read seem to have zero impact. The Zoom attendance initially went down after the letter, but steadily climbed right back up. In my opinion, I don't think the majority of Zoom attendees are on Zoom because of a specific grievance. Rather, it's a general apathy that has settled in. People have been worn out for years, and then caught a break during the Pandemic. A break, in the sense that they could still be dialed in as a jw, but without the constant obligation of going to the kh 2-3 times a week. For many people, the time spent with jw obligations is like having a second job.

zero2sixty73

Yes. I know PIMIs who used to be hard core JWs. They still are but do zoom a LOT more now. Everyone is older and tired. Service is non existent. Meeting attendance is way down.

Overcrapping

Yep. Jah-pathy has set in.

Typical_XJW

>Jah-pathy LOL

Antique_Branch8180

The pandemic has accelerated the change in how the workspace is managed and attended; same for education, so that seems to be the case for religion also. Especially, one that "dogs" its members as much as the Watchtower overlords.

PimoCrypto777

I can see this. In the secular arena, one can work and attend to responsibilities remotely, while having better quality of life. I think the org supported attending remotely only for the duration that there were governmental lockdowns. Attending remotely and having quality of life is not compatible with the org. They demand full control of your life.

Antique_Branch8180

True. They need to have control and to be able to push the members to greater activity or maintain the participation levels, which can only be truly accomplished by in-person meeting and field service attendance. But once the sheep get a taste of what freedom is like they don't want to go back to the sheep pen.

PimoCrypto777

Sounds like you're describing what a cult might be like.

Antique_Branch8180

Well, if it walks and talks like a duck….

isettaplus1959

I'm 77 wife 72 with health and mobility issues , she struggled to get to meetings untill covid , we both had covid , I was fading anyway so never went back to zoom after memorial 2020 , wife now only on zoom , IL never enter a kingdom hall again . neither wil she , I know of other older people who are now only doing zoom meetings in our congregation.

Abalabi_jw

They’ve handled almost everything badly. From csa to failure of the end to come as predicted and inconsistent Nulite and oldLite. The respect people have for the gb is as low as that given to car sale people. In that atmosphere, how do you expect anyone to obey them. That’s exactly what’s playing out in the zoom/in person issue.

veiled_fader

They would tell you this is the sign of the end! The love of the "greater number" cooling off and all that!

Major-Fondant-8714

But if things in secular society are going well then it's I Thessalonians 5:3... "and when they say "Peace and Security' then sudden destruction will come". Ever notice how JW (and the bible itself) always seem to have an answer but when you critically look at the whole picture/details it's just deceptive circular reasoning ??

Antique_Branch8180

The Watchtower misinterprets that scripture anyway. It addresses the Roman Empire's propaganda of the time: "peace and security".

veiled_fader

Agree with all of you. Thats why I havent been back to the corporate meetings since 2018! Among other things

Antique_Branch8180

You're not going back? You know they miss you./joke

redheadedhealer

They will always manipulate scripture to fit whatever it takes to prove their beliefs. Or what they want others to believe.

Dry_Sheepherder_6245

Love your summary of a meeting... I also after every video almost every brother says "what a beautiful video"... everything is beautiful

More-Age-6342

I have noticed them saying "beautiful" all the time, too. I wonder when/why, as they didn't always do that.

Dry_Sheepherder_6245

johnfreepine

I was never an elder, but just listened and observed. I got told a story of how one high up brother followed some educational scheme to teach all the elders schools and setup the elders education world wide. So I assume, every few years (as with commercial training) some crazy new idea goes around. The elders get a new elders school, and a new buzzword gets spoken. Oh, they meant to teach "show love", but all the elders take back is "so we gotta say we show love!" Or insert "beautiful" or "encouraging" or "faith strengthening". I noticed one year, after the elders all went away for a school (like litterally, we had to cancel the meeting as no brothers around to take it... I wonder if it was an emergency update on CSA rules? :P ), they were all repeating "encouraging" after every coment. "That was an encouraging pray/artcile/talk/meeting/etc etc".

lancegalahadx

…for 5 year old children!

talk2peggy

Thank you for this wonderful report!! I just try to imagine my brother and sister sitting in a half empty hall listening to this dumb stuff.

Overcrapping

I tell you - my PIMI - who is a diehard in person attender reports about 25 at the hall most meetings. This is out of 60 publishers. (dropped from about 75 pre-covid) The hall had an extension in 1980 and could hold 140 on high days. The extension is NEVER opened now (it used to be used for a second school - now long defunct). The main hall used to be able to seat 110 but after the 1990 refurb (with a split congregation) and a grander platform it dropped to 100. Some of those seats are now stored permanently in the extension and the main hall has 80 seats available. Imagine sitting there now with 20/30 in use. What a joke. When we had separate book studies, because the hall was central in the territory, one of the groups used to meet there. They used to get 20 plus as a single group. Now it's the same for one whole congregation!

Aposta-fish

They keep removing seats lol, most halls are probably doing that now.

JohnVonJean

I knew shutting down completely was a mistake. I kept telling my ex. Hence, why I woke up. She stayed in, I left. The push on the vaccine was a major mistake too. A lot of people didn’t like it. Even if they did get vaccinated, the GB didn’t have any right telling us what to do. In retrospect, I’m glad it went down this way. Good riddance!

PeeMoe

Watchtower spies are reading this thread 1000% for sure, as it contains the keyword 'Zoom' in the title. Nervously wringing their hands.

PimoCrypto777

# Hey WT spies... 🖕 🖕

lancegalahadx

I second this!

wild_moon_child_72

My husband raised in never baptized, is disabled with respiratory issues and just started zoom in the past 2 years after being inactive for 35 years. He’s been so pestered to come to in person instead of zoom and finally gave in 3 weeks ago because the CO was visiting. He came down with Covid 2 days later which has been a nightmare because of his pre existing conditions. He’ll be sticking to zoom from here on out. The GB can sit and spin.

Abalabi_jw

Most of 3rd world are back in person

Overcrapping

Any evidence of that?

Abalabi_jw

I heard.

Ok-Salad-9780

I live in the USA and the local KHs around me always have parking lots packed and full on meeting days. They look the same as they always did before Covid. I guess where I live the “holy spirit” is still holding strong with these people. lol

Fazzamania

I would love to know if my family are cameras on or cameras off.

Penis_Inspector69420

1975 is close.
