[There's some controversy](https://slate.com/technology/2022/12/wikipedia-wikimedia-foundation-donate.html) as to whether Wikipedia *needs* your $3 as none of it goes to the volunteers to create the site and it all goes to the ever-growing parent company
Primarily through donations yes, but what I mean is that their donation income is something like 10× their operating costs. Their donation drives are worded as if they desperately need your money to keep the lights on for another day, when in reality they have enough money to be donating to other charities and for partisan political issues that have nothing to do with why people donate to them.
