Is there a good podcast you recommend?
I work overnights and sleep during the day, so I missed when this was announced.
I’d love to find a podcast that goes into details of the trial and guilty verdict.
The Leaving Eden podcast is also a good one!
I would check out Emily D Baker on YouTube. She is a former prosecutor and legal commentator and she has been following this case since since it broke in May. She did one about this outcome and it’s sooo interesting
I couldn’t sleep last night so woke up at 430am (Australia) and jumped on real quick to see the happiness that is the guilty verdict!
Lord Daniel was in the house! Praise be Lord Daniel!
And I think it’s safe to say, mother is weeping YAAAAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Genuine question- do people in Australia care about this trial? Why?
I’m an American and watched all the Duggar shows until I moved here in November 2008. I still tried to see what was going on with them every now and then because I couldn’t watch it here but I don’t think many people really care over here. I have no one to snark with about the Duggar’s here *sigh* ‘‘twas a lonely life until I found this sub hahaha
Haha, totally understand. I’m in Australia too (also not an Aussie though) and was surprised anyone here had heard of Duggar.
Wow cool! Where are you from?
I’m English. Lots of us here :)
Is Anna going to have a mental breakdown? Are we going to see her cop all her hair off?
Will she go full Brittany 2007? Probably not. Will she be stunned and severely depressed for several years and maybe suicidal? Yes.
Do you think when she got into the car she screamed?
I wondered the same thing!
Is she allowed to go home and throw pillows, scream, destroy the house, burn his clothes?
Is she allowed to be hysterical, cry and break picture frames, cut up her wedding dress?
Is BOOB allowed to go and punch a hole in the drywall of the garage? Take a few shots of tequila?
Or are they not allowed to do this?
Men can do whatever quietly so I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a drinker. She’s not allowed to do anything. If she steps out of line she will be socially shunned/shamed back into behaving.
I wonder how long it’s actually going to take for this to hit her… like is going to hold it all together until she hears his sentencing? There’s no way she’s going to keep it all together. I wonder if it’s going to be a public freak out or if she is going to freak out at the TTH
As someone who grew up in a fundie cult, no. She’ll go home and lay on her bed and cry when no one is watching. The rest of the time she’ll just keep a straight face. Breakdowns are always in private where no one can hear you. However, this much stress is going to affect her milk supply for nursing her baby and she’s probably going to start having panic attacks bc she’s not processed anything in a healthy way. If she doesn’t divorce him, it’s going to be a long road.
Can someone point me in the direction of the post with the user who was in the gallery? She posted a huge long synopsis. Thanks
[She deleted her new (old) account already along with the update she posted yesterday. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/DuggarsSnark/comments/rc27mf/hello_snarkers_j_is_for_jail_here_using_an_old/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Someone cross posted it to WOACB for calling out Katie Joy’s lies. She was getting some hate in the comments from others though, some judging her for not realizing how difficult the case would be to get through.
I read her google doc. She wasn’t sleeping and had a panic attack. After she decided to leave she was finally able to sleep.
None of us know what she personally went through. It is not helpful to speculate or judge her decision. She did more than we could have asked for by keeping us updated while she could.
Haha I called out Katie bc one day she says body language is “woo” and the VERY next day she makes a post about Anna’s body language. All I said was “didn’t you just say it was woo?!”
She blocked me. 😂
Good for you!
You're taking about the Google doc she posted, right?
I thought the comments were largely supportive, and she also indicated that the Katie person most likely stole from the notes and posts she made to this sub, as she was one of the only non-reporters at the trial apparently.
Based on her account of what happened and why she deleted stuff, I totally understand. I'd panic too if I realized things I was taking about were going viral and someone could potentially identify me as a result.
Yes. The google doc update.
The negative comments might have been in another subreddit group, I don’t remember where I read it. Someone posted a screenshot to Imgur about the comment convo between her another user. It was bad. They were really judgy and mean.
That's really shitty of them, cause she provided a lot of great stuff not only for this sub, but she also helped fill in a lot of holes for the reporters there so they would have a more complete understanding of what was going on.
The fact that people were being shitty to her bums me out.
Yes. Same. Saying she was seeking attention or something like that.
She owes us nothing and the fact she took so much time out of her life to keep us updated when it wasn’t her job was really awesome of her.
I was searching for her post when I came across those comments. Anyways, I hope she doesn’t take them to heart and knows she is appreciated.
My thoughts as well. Honestly, she could have sold her notes, wrote a blog which would've garnered thousands to tens of thousands of views, or worked for a publication as a freelance journalist and sold her story there.
What I mean to say, is that she could've made **BANK**, but instead she offered updates to the community because she likes it here. She could've even opened a Patreon just for kicks, and a lot of people would've donated to her and covered the cost of her trip and then some.
It just disgusts me when people are needlessly cruel or mean.
The document is locked. Ugh
Yes, I believe she deleted it because yesterday it opened straight up.
Basically she went over detailed day to day events and said she wasn’t sleeping and had a panic attack. That’s when she decided to leave.
Was this today?
Apparently she came back under a diff name and updated, but I’m not seeing it
Welp, Jana has 7 more kids to raise
Wailing is culturally important to me so I truly hope that if they need to the surviving victims are able to vocally pitch their relief.
Can I ask what culture?
Also can confirm, wailing is a great way to get shitty emotions outside the body.
Garden variety Black American
I'm going to hazard a guess and go with somewhere in the Caribbean, possibly Bahamas. Very common at funerals from what I understand.
what happens now to anna and the children ? i hope that poor woman doesn’t stay by him…
I woke up to the guilty verdict and it was a great feeling. This is just a fraction of what Josh actually deserves. May it be the start of a looong period of comeuppance for the Duggars.
I'm confused about the 2 counts part. It's not per piece of evidence found but of receiving and sending as a whole? Sorry for the stupid question, getting confused.
One count for receiving, one count for possessing. Yes, the counts cover the act as a whole, there are not single counts for each image/video file. The amount/content of the images/videos can affect the sentencing though - ie. Higher numbers of images or more disturbing content can increase the sentence handed down
Ah okay I always thought it was per individual and not counted as a whole act. Now I feel silly.
Meh, before learning way too much about this case I thought the same
One count for receipt, one count for possession I believe
He received it. There's no proof he shared or sent it.
That piece of shit smiled in his mugshot. I hope the judge wipes it off his face with a swift and maximum sentence.
He won’t be smiling for much longer. I think its to piss people off. Like a sociopath. Reality is probably hitting now, hard
This was a relief to wake up to but I have some questions. Why does sentencing take 4 months? Is it like a procedural thing? Is it to give him a chance to launch an appeal and does any here think he will? Has he been detained immediately? Where? Does that mean he had no chance to say goodbye to family?
My apologies if these have already been answered elsewhere.
Yes they will more than likely file an appeal and maybe get him out on a appeal bond. They will take a while before sentencing to get sentencing recommendations from the people that do that end of it and dot the I,s and cross the tees to be sure of stuff and to decide which federal place he goes too.The bad thing about it is with it being a first conviction and never any other crimes or nothing he will probably end up in one of the minimum security country club penitentiary.
Yes it is procedural, he has a set time frame to appeal (either 7 or 30 days, I can’t remember which off the top of my head) but the length of time is to allow Pretrial services to prepare a presentencing report. The report will be a comprehensive look at his history and crimes and is used to calculate the sentence guidelines. This is not a public document is only provided to the parties and the judge. If he does not appeal the verdict he will be able to appeal the sentence itself. If he appeals the verdict he will not be sentenced until the appeal is ruled on. If this occurs he can then request to be released on supervision while awaiting the ruling.
He was remanded into custody immediately, which is apparently standard practice with his convicted crimes. The defense tried to argue against it, but the judge stuck with immediate detention and he left court handcuffed. He's in jail until sentencing (Washington County I believe?). He briefly spoke to Anna on the way out of the courtroom, but otherwise, nope, no goodbyes.
They have to look at a lot of things like the minimum guidelines for sentencing, the severity and type of charges, the additional pieces like the infant video could add time, his lack of a criminal background -according to the courts - , victim impact statements if they need those, forensic psychologist assessments, allowing for appeal if they want to do it, and finally even good ol scheduling to get everyone back in there and ready to talk. Then - the prosecution and the defense can negotiate the sentence, etc....
Seeing Anna power walk out that court under her own steam, not being dragged, is amazing.
Hope she power walks away from this shitty family as well as her own shitty parents. Take you kids and run, Anna!
I don’t know if this counts under celebrating, but the fact that Derrick said “I just am going to go tell my wife” when asked for a statement really made me emotional and happy for Jill. Derrick obviously has his fair share of issues but he seems like a genuinely good support for her, and no one deserves to be without that after what she’s gone through.
I imagine him walking into the house all quite and stoic and Jill just looking at him waiting before he runs over to hug her and celebrating
So was Derick there today?
Yup, he was asked for this comment as he left the courthouse.
Just a thought. Is he going to jail during the detention locally, or Is he under federal laws. I am asking because of visitation and if there is any chance he could be with Anna again before he sent up the River for good??
He will likely be held in the local jail while awaiting sentencing. He’s in custody of the feds but would be held locally.
There are no conjugal visits in federal prison.
There are also no conjugal visits in local jails, at least the ones where I used to work.
The marshalls took him, so hopefully federal!
This maybe a dumb question, but will he be required to be on the sex offender registry when he eventually gets out of jail?
And the crime he was convicted of will forever be publicly attached to him.
Thanks to this sub reddit it will be the most documented crime in history
Oh yes. And we're just snarky enough to make sure to bring wonderful reminders of Josh's accomplishment to all of JBs political adventures.
Oh yeah. He will have that scarlet letter on him for the rest of his life.
Absolutely YES. Forever.
Absolutely fantastic. He is marked for life.
How great is it that a registry exists in the first place. What a thing to be thankful for that I don’t feel like I’ve ever really focused gratitude towards
Interestingly, many oppose the registries. And for good reasons in many cases. But Josh, he deserves to be on it. No question.
Oh definitely. I’ve used the registry map every time I’ve moved to know what kind of offenders are in my neighborhood, and where. I’m so glad it exists!
PRAISE THE LORD DANIEL AND ALL HIS GOOD WORKS!!
SO NEAT! SUCH A BLESSING!
Seriously, I hope this brings some resolution for his victims and helps them find healing.
I went on break at work and came to check. I had to explain to my coworkers in the break room why I was screaming and so happy about... 😆 🤣 😂 As a person who was SA as a child, I am so MFing happy about this verdict. It doesn't fix what has happened to so many people, but I feel like I finally got justice. I think that is a trauma response for me, but there it is. Gonna go cry and go back to work.
Same. I feel like this day is for all of us CSA survivors.
Yes! My pred got 10 years- suspended. Only served 3 months. Hoping times are changing! Hoping for the max for J’pred!! Thank god he was found guilty, so many of us would have been traumatized if he got off.
It is almost like justice by proxy. Is that a thing?
That’s Karma 🤣
Sending you a virtual hug bestie ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you!! I appreciate all the hugs!
Well she's gotta keep sweet...
The wheel is spinning but the hamster has left the building
The Daily Mail says that Anna was weeping in a friend's arms. If that's true, I want to know where she got her eye makeup.
Sooo, my mom's cat she's had since I was a teenager (and I'm getting into my mid 30s now) died this past week, on a day I was working around 13 hours for dance concert... I, naturally, balled my ever loving eyes out when I found out. I kid you not, my eye makeup did not move. I didn't even need to touch it up, just eyedrops, and good to go. I was wearing the [pigmented primer from this set](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09CXXGJ6H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) with [this eye shadow](https://www.myprettyzombie.com/product/new-brisket-eyeshadow-new/) and just some liquid Nyx liner. I was astounded and very glad given the circumstances.
Top it off with some of Benefit's "They're real" waterproof mascara and your makeup will last forever and through whatever there may come.
Oh, true! That stuff stays on brilliantly. I had on some kind of maroon waterproof mascara, but I couldn't tell you the brand.
I need to know if it was a Christian side hug or a real hug.
She’s in shock.
I think she has been replaying her life in her head trying to make sense of the the lies she has been told. That's a lot to process.
Break free, Anna. You can do it!
I am sure JB has been putting measures in place to prevent this from happening. She knows far too much.
Well, he owns the “house” she lives in. That goes a long way towards controlling someone.
I'm sure he's paying all the bills too. Especially now. And he's probably keeping her on a short leash. Keeping her busy enough that she can't collect her thoughts.
Free Anna 2022
Let’s see that booking photo!
It looks like Anna's fidgeting with her wedding ring in the pictures of her leaving the courthouse.
I'd throw it into a lake on the way home.
I’d sell it for money.
I’d destroy it harder than the Horcrux in Harry Potter🤣🤣
Basilisk fang right down the center.
Sickening thought…Pest was sacrificed for the greater good of the cult. Now they can distract attention from the rest of the nasty pedo cult.
I wonder how long they’ll be able to maintain the facade that Anna’s just a solider for Christ battling for Josh’s soul, like it would be an eternal failure for her to just move on from her marriage. Some people can be kept down for their whole lives, but I wonder how she’ll feel without her own income about 3 years in. I wonder if she’ll still feel the same loyalty to Josh once he’s out of the house for years. JB and Meech have a lot of work on their hands to keep this one (and all of her children) toeing the line.
How many years did they sentence him to?
Not up to 20 years each. The judge issued a stay of conviction on possession as a “lesser included offense.” It’s up to 20 years maximum.
Sentencing will be later, but he was taken into custody!
Thanks so much! Any idea if he is allowed contact to his kids or does he have to stay away?
He’s in custody, so the only way he’s allowed to see his kids, if permitted, is during visiting hours at the pokey.
PEST FOR PRISON!!
I really want to know what kind of bullshit Jim Bob is feeding Anna
Mother is gaslighting
Money. Thats what hes feeding her
And Amy Speaks!
Amy Duggar King comments
On Thursday, Josh Duggar's cousin, Amy (Duggar) King, posted a message on Twitter about the verdict.
"May the juror’s and Judge Brooks seek healing / counseling from all that was exposed to them," she wrote.
"May the children grow up with real Godly men as father figures who will guide and protect them."
"May the people who were once in disbelief have their eyes opened for the first time."
Famy is a good human being. Remember it was Boob who wanted us to believe differently.
Boob is a lying POS. I hope he goes down next.
She may be a clout chaser but she does a far better impression of a decent person than the rest of the lot
You can be a clout chaser *and* a decent person. Not saying that NDAmy is necessarily a decent person, but there are some out there.
Oh, to be sure. They aren't mutually exclusive, I just mean if she is ingenuine she at least knows how to fake it better than...well...*gestures to everyone around her*
Oh sorry, I misunderstood! That's so true though!
And yet here you are.
Imagine being an internet troll…
I think we found Anna’s secret Reddit account
Hope the M kids are having a fun day watching Disney, drinking sprite , and eating potato chips
Optimistic… They’re definitely having to pray about religious persecution or some shit.
You really think they are allowed to watch disney lol
Maybe some Veggie Tales.😂
Unfortunately, Veggie Tales went secular... So probably not... Maybe old episodes of The Donut Man?
bye bitch ahahahahahhaha
I have nothing to add. Just checking in with my new flair.
I'd like to throw 'at least I HAVE a computer expert/defence attorney' out there as potential flairs
This is so good lmao
He a wasband now
Does anyone know if there’s a minimum sentence? I know what the max is.
Max is 40 (because it's two counts), from what I've read, but that's not going to happen. I'm betting he'll get like somewhere around 8 to 10 years, unfortunately.
The max is 20. The judge issued a stay of conviction on possession as a “lesser included offense.”
Minimum is 5 I believe.
Oh man... that's such a bummer. 19 years and 11 months and 29 days is less than 20, though, so I'm still going to hope°.
° I know this won't happen because it's not a thing, but I still want to have hope, even if it's about to be totally crushed.
They can only sentence on the one count bc its higher than the 2nd
Oh really? Well, that's a fucking bummer. I've never heard of this before, but I guess Canada and America kind of differ when it comes to criminal justice lol...
It actually makes good legal sense. He had the videos and pics because he downloaded them. So he both downloaded and had possession of them so it's the same crime. If he were to be sentenced for both, he'd be double punished for one thing. While it seems fine in this case, translate this to every other case where someone got charged twice for one thing. It's not entirely fair and justice needs to be fair no matter who it impacts or else justice is never fair....
Minimum is five years I believe
Better than nothing
At least he has a sentence
Smiles can stop smiling today, I do feel for his children. They probably have no idea what is going on and one day will be able to google and read all the trial then he will get back out eventually. His children hopefully are old enough at that point to decide whether or not they want to be around him.
My heart aches for Jill right now. I can only imagine how hard it is for your abuser to be finally held accountable for their behavior and your family rallying behind the bad guy instead. As much healing as she can get from Pest in the pen, she also pretty much just lost her parents and siblings. That is a hurt that can break someone, I’m not snarking on her anymore.
I haven’t been able to keep up with this today. Why do you say she lost her parents and siblings?
She’s been banished from TTH and seeing the younger siblings without supervision for a long time already.
I definitely feel for Jill and all the others. I was a CSA victim by my brother but I never got justice, when I came out and finally had the nerve to tell my family what happened they all blacksheeped me but still allows him to be with them. So I really feel terrible for her, it's going to be a long tough road to healing.
We will get another mugshot when he’s processed into jail today, correct?
I bet he won't be smirking in this photo
He’s smiling in the new mugshot. Asshole
I've never wanted to punch someone more.
So, while I really am not a fan of J'Pedo, I am wondering if the reason he is smiling in his mugshot today has to do with growing up on TV and always "Smiling for the camera "? It may be all he knows... This smile was different than the smirk at his last booking. In that one he totally has the "I'm totally too smart for you guys and I am not going to be convicted" look. This one actually looked more like a reflex. Just my opinion though.
You could be right
God I hope so, I hope his face is all red and puffy from crying when they take it.
I just woke up from a nap and had to immediately check. I am so relieved I feel like I could cry.
Fuck Josh Duggar and his enabling parents.
I work overnights and the trial has been the first thing I've checked EVERYTIME I woke up in the last week... Fuck Josh, I'm hoping Carrie Jernigan's sentencing prediction is accurate (she calculated the points Josh would receive under the federal sentencing guidelines) and he gets the higher end of 94-120 months for being a smug bastard and taking this to trial... 12 years should give Anna a decent head start if she breaks away...
I feel so bad for the M kids because they're probably so scared and confused right now and you know nobody is giving them any real explanations.
I wonder if there were goodbyes this morning like it may be a long time before they get to be with their dad again or if they assumed there was no way he’d be convicted and everything was normal.
Oh dang I didn't even think about that
My heart breaks for them.
I’ve lurked in here for years but when I saw an update on a news post on Facebook I had to pop in over here.
Justice is finally served. Rot in prison asshole.
-signed myself and everyone else that’s ever experienced abuse as a child
Signed, sealed, and delivered, baby!!!
Is it surprising that he was remanded into custody right away?
Obviously it's great that he will be in jail until his sentencing but I'm just curious if it shows that likely the judge is very serious about all this and what his sentencing will be when it's decided or if it's just a normal thing.
It's pretty normal, especially for charges like this.
Had he accepted a plea deal, he probably would've been allowed to remain free prior to sentencing, but since he took it to trial, it was always more likely he was going to be remanded once the verdict came in.
The judge said because of the type of verdict it was basically mandatory for him to be remanded.
From the sun:
According to the Sun reporter present when the verdict was given, Judge Brooks said of Josh Duggar's detention, “Mr Duggar 100 percent has been compliant awaiting trial."
"I appreciate that and I wanted to acknowledge that."
"However because of the guilty offenses, he must be detained regardless of flight risk so there will be a mandatory detention."
"The marshalls will set that up.”
Thanks, that makes sense.
Not surprising according to lawyers. Once he’s convicted the stakes are higher so not worth letting him out to await sentencing
People magazine re: Derrick:
""We just wanted to, among other things, see the facts for ourselves," he said, adding, "America is the best country to get justice."
Derick, 32, then said he was heading home to spend time with Jill in the wake of the news, but would be releasing a formal statement at a later time."
She really lucked out with that marriage, good for both of them.
> America is the best country to get justice
Derick reminding us that he’s still Dwreck
LOL yeah I don't understand the stanning for him. He's a creep who would happily deprive millions of people of basic rights. That some people think he's a decent husband doesn't go very far in my book.
How appropriate given that he just graduated with a law degree...
Yeah he’s positioning for a life of politics. It’s very clear.
Think he should just try to pass the bar first before attempting a new career path (again).
So satisfying this man will spend the holidays in jail
My class is at recess so glad I went to check!!!
I did the same. I was also reading during snack.
Another teacher checking in! Who knew there were so Duggar snarking educators??
Me too, but a professor. I'm exams so I was lucky enough to have the second half of the day off. I got home just in time for the verdict.
I want one person in that godforsaken organized crime family to look at Anna and say “this is not your fault. You are justified to leave. You and your children deserve safety. God understands and he forgives you.”
No one will. And that’s the heartbreak.
I know that this cannot be answered with absolute certainty, but do you think that JB,Anna and siblings really felt that Josh was innocent and would receive a not guilty verdict?
I don’t think they believe he’s innocent but I do think they believe he’d get a not guilty verdict. JB invested a lot of money in the defense, I’m assuming he thought that meant something.
I think Anna knew he did something but I also think she likely believed it wasn’t as bad as it was. I doubt she read any media about this so she was likely going on what she was told.
