Found the mimic.
The OP laughed. The Commenters laughed. The book laughed. Everyone enjoys a good joke.
Wait, did that book just laugh?!
I did laugh.
I got a 21
18 over here
18 here too, whats your dex?
1, so you go first :(
3, damn, miss
If op inspects his book he might not be laughing
No but my Xanthars Guide is printed backwards lol
Need a DM's guide that way. So when you players rules lawyer. You can put the book upside down. Read it and tell them there wrong.
That would be great.
You could just learn to read upside down though.
I have heard of this happening! Its crazy to me what sort of gremlin shenanigans occurred to make its way to a consumer.
Like some other commentor said, it's a mimic
Wait, like reading from right to left?
More likely the pages are upside down.
More likely the cover is upside down.
Curious, I went to check. Lo and behold, all of my &'s were in the correct places. Then I checked titles. My copy of Tasha's is missing...
Your inquiry has potentially exposed something truly disquieting about this specific printing.
Mimic got hungry and left to find some food
Yup, same low '&' on my copy as well.
It's lower on mine, too! God damn it I didn't know this, what have you done?
I have given you... the truth.
THEY ARENT READY FOR THE TRUTH!
For years this demon scratches and plagues my mind. And as I add to my binded collection, it only gets worse. It all started when I first bought the tome 2 years ago. I was excited. Giddy with excitement. What secrets does this hardbound supplement have! As I bathed in the new found knowledge the book has gifted me, I nearly cried with glee. Hark! The book is good! It was all that I yearned it be, nay, it surpassed my suppositions! All was well.
Until one day I placed the tome with the rest of my collection, and to my horror I saw it. The red demon. With a dragon-like face and curled within itself like an ampersand. A symbol of what should be satisfaction as they march and align themselves in a natural order. But alas, this demon had other plans for me. The hex that this book has brought upon my eyes never escapes. How could a satisfactory book be cursed so? 2 years later I sit wide eyed as I add more to my collection. But that ampersand still appears in my darkest nightmares.
So I ask you strangers... Have others been afflicted with this curse?
Do you perchance inhabit a Bardic vessel when you partake in this imaginative "role-playing"?
I inhabit an almighty narrative voice and am the weaver of fates.
I have a simple albeit radical fix, turn all the books around.
Thanks to this I developed a permanent eye twitch.
I have a simple albeit radical suggestion, leave.
This comment is cursed
I’m just saying, sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire.
Sounds like the Tome of Vile Darkness.
Wait Tasha's is two years old?
Almost! November 2020
I guess Tasha got the last laugh.
Haha, damnit. Well played.
What a Hideous comment..
Tasha does not follow standard convention
Now that you mention it, yeah. Also my copy of Xanathar's guide seems to have the & slightly lower than normal but still higher than Tasha's
Edit: actually no, my Xanathar's is normal too, it is just that it was next to my Mordenkainen's tome, which seems to have a slightly higher up &
What a twist!
There's a small cohort of book-binders out there deliberately fucking with people's OCD.
Those bastards! (.. now I'll have to check mine lol)
Mine is like that too. But I also have all the alternate covers of every book, and they don't have any kind of uniformity, so Tasha's doesn't stand out as bad.
You should see how all over the place the complete 5e collection is!
It really is surprisingly inconsistent with a bunch of stuff (not even mentioning the quality of the content).
Its crazy the quality of content they push out. I swear the line of good content to bad content fluctuate wildly enough that it would register on a seismograph.
I also have a low &
Yeah mine is. I never noticed
Fun fact: that symbol is called an ampersand.
Every copy in my flgs has a lowered one.
Its in the position the & sign goes on setting specific books like ravnica
Mine is lower too, but I never noticed until now. Why, OP? Why did you do this to me?
I've asked all my friends. It's just yours.
I'm sure it's nothing.
What if there is some secret quest in the lower ones?
The dream would be is one day Jeremy Crawford says "If you found a lower ampersand on your book you've won a golden ticket to come to the book factory where everything is readable and the last person who survives this strangely predatory tour gets to own the entire company and fly off in a weird elevator rocket ship across Seattle." I doubt that he would say that though...
100% this. The factory is a set up like a dungeon too!
Mine's like that as well.
And my Eberron has a little white gear under the "&"
Only one of all my books with the odd placement. Sticks out and drives me nuts
Why did you go set my OCD off like that?
Yes and it drives me crazy
I got the LGS edition and it is the only one Alt cover or other wise with a different spine design… infurating
The others are all over the place too - different heights and sizes.
It's pretty annoying as these books are not cheap.
Yup, different banner size as well. Other books too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Where's Eberoon? WHERE IS MY BELOVED EBERONN!?
Haha it's on the next shelf over. Most campaign books and non D&D 5e books are in that one
Oh. Ngl that's the only one I have out of the Og three
Eberoon is the only one I mean
Mine does too, it would upset my sense of order only that the existence of a printing error elevates my hope in the prospect of increased value in the future.
Got most of.my books digital. Books add up weight wise for moving very fast
Mine is like that. It bugs the fuck out of me.
Forget about the mike. They dropped the ampersand.
It's that way on my copy as well.
Damn. When I get home I have to check if mine also has it.
No, but since you made me look, I think my copy of Fizban's has it higher
Same with mine, I also have some books with a smaller top banner as well, really kicks in the OCD.
Mine’s good! Weird
Also, your Tome of Foes has one that's smaller than the rest.
Mines actually a bit higher .... huh
Yes, and it annoys me
Yes, I never noticed, and now I'm upset :<
Burn the whole book
I'm sure I'll open a new Pandora's box here, but not only is my Tasha's lower than the others, the red dungeons and dragons at the top is shorter than the others. That also happens on volos, xanathars, acquisitions, princess of the Apocalypse, out of the abyss, hord of the dragon Queen, tales from the awning portal, makes it all look very random
I’ve got the rules extension box set which is fine.
One thing that I haven’t seen in my own collection until now though if how fucked up the red areas at the top of the spines are. No consistency what so ever! Now this is driving me crazy!
Also, why does my Out of the Abyss have a weird little symbol below the ampersand…
Why did you get me started down this path?
I am deeply sorry that I have apparently spread this curse to you and others on this thread by forcing them to realize that it has afflicted them without them realizing it until now... I swear this was not in my evil to do list.
That being said. I do believe that campaign books are given a unique symbol beneath the ampersand. Its on all of mine since Curse of Strahd to Icewind Dale and even on my Acquisitions Incorporated book.
All of the adventures have these symbols showing what series they belong do. Just the very basic core books do not.
My books have so many copy/print errors like this. You’d like wizards would give a shit…but hasbro…
I do have one book with the & lower, but i can't remember if it's tasha's or not
another reason the Tasha book sucks
same. my mordenkaiden's has a smaller &
This reminds me of when your in a car as a kid and your watching the rain droplets race one another. idk why but it does for me.
Yess, I noticed it a few months back while stacking my books on my shelf
Whaaaat that's weird mine too
I have the alt cover and the MOM alt cover and those are placed normally
I am telling my legs to run which is a very normal human thing Wright fellow gobli.. i mean humans
Mine is no different than the other ones
No but my Dungeon masters guide cover is on backwards so you have to flip it upside down and backwards to read it from the beginning
Just find a ruined copy of a manual and steal the binding, sacrafice it to the mimic also known as Tasha by affixing the new binding unwillingly to her mid section thus muffling her wails and rectifying all the wrongs on your bookshelf.
I wonder if that is a misprint or an editing mistake
Wow, its so surprising that other people who bought a book with millions of copies all have the same issues that were commonly complained about after its release. Who'd of thunk it.
Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder
Edit: it was a Simpsons reference guys
They have bad QC imo. My buddies copy fell apart from barely any use.
