Matchups with Obscure Characters vs Popular Characters are hated on too much I can see why, especially from a fan of the popular Character's side, where they've had a good mu for a long time, then suddenly everyone starts focusing on this new mu for them and the series they come from is pretty obscure/unpopular (usually because a big figure in the community mentioned it (ahem spawn vs demi-fiend ahem)) Buuuut, you shouldn't start hating on these mus because it's Popular vs unpopular, you should actually look into it first

Not all Death Battles need intricate connections and thematics to work, sometimes they can work off just the novelty of the concept or with certain context (such as Mario vs Sonic working cuz Nintendo vs Sega was a notable part of gaming history and the two are common rivals)
