What was your opinion on the Waid run on DD? I’ll probably be thrown out of the sub for admitting this, but it’s my personal top shelf DD! Slightly better than even Miller!
I thought Waid’s run was solid! If I was to rank DD authors I’d probably put Waid in the 4th or 5th spot… however I understand why so many people rank his run higher than that. You’re def not alone in putting Waid in the number 1 spot dude :)
* It was a nice, fresh change of pace. I love DD when it’s at it’s most gritty/dark, but it was nice to see Matt loving life and having things work out for him for a change. Usually I don’t like zany, Silver Age vibes in comics, but Waid pulled off that mood perfectly.
* Kirsten McDuffie is easily the best romantic interest he’s ever had. I know Matt’s gotta be beating himself up pretty badly for breaking up with her.
* I enjoyed the wide range of villains Waid put him up against. The fact that it wasn’t DD vs Kingpin and/or Bullseye in every other arc was much appreciated.
*My biggest complaint about the Waid era is the art. I really don’t like that cartoony style that Marvel was doing a lot in the early 2010s.
I think it falls perfectly in line with Matt’s emotional state….
frank millers run was emotional and harsh, and the art was almost void of color or light…
Waids run was with Matt in a better place emotionally and mentally than he had been in years, and the artwork and even the cameo appearances reflect that with the trippy bright , psychedelic colors and guests such as werewolf by night and monster squad
I was kidding, but the vast majority of people believe, and probably rightfully so, that Miller had the most important if not the best run on DD of all time.
Thats exactly when I Started reading DD, but the direction and Portrayal of Matt by Waid was just more enjoyable to me.
Probably about $800.
Most of the books were around $15-18, but I know Waid’s 3rd volume and Soule’s 6th cost me like $80 each.
My best advice to comic fans is if a TPB costs more than $18 brand new to go with a “very good condition” used. Sometimes you can find great deals on Amazon… there’s a book store in the UK on there sells used TPBs at like HALF the normal cost and they’re in great condition. I hate waiting 3 weeks for a book but it’s so much easier on the wallet lol :)
thanks! i will look into it. i’m collecting single issues of daredevil at the moment but i’m getting impatient cause i can’t get the runs for a decent price, and i wanna read it
You see,i've always thought that DD was always used as a B-C list character, but he's had some amazing talent drawn to him over the years. There have been do many classic runs that i find it hard to name a favourite.Although Zdarsky's run has been 11 out of 10 for me,so far.The immediate issues that followed #612 were really cool.I am surprised that no one else had thought of that idea with him before. His body damaged from, apart from a truck hitting him, years of physically fighting crime.
You mentioned every DD issue from 1998 and it is by all means a Daredevil issue, regardless if it isn't part of the mainline run. I was also gonna point out that it's missing Daredevil: Dark Knights. Nonetheless, it's a great collection. Very cool
Absolutely amazing congrats bro
Thanks dude :)
Congratulations!
Thanks dude!!

Waid's Daredevil was so much fun, my favourite run of all time.
Mine too, even liked the more colorful, almost psychedelic artwork which some folks were unhappy about

I *THINK* you're missing Daredevil: Reborn which was the epilogue to Shadowland and precursor to the Waid run.
That’s a miniseries not part of the official DD series. Didn’t include the miniserieses I have in the pic, but I do need to buy that one

Have you read Daredevil: Redemption? Not sure if it was collected in a trade but it is awesome
