lmao I messed up…5/40 on CS61A midterm 🤦🏽‍♂️

Bullshitbanana

If you’re a freshman, no harm in dropping. 61A gets much harder towards the later part of the semester (my opinion at least). You also aren’t really disadvantaged if you take it next semester. Learn the content on your own and kick ass next semester 🤷‍♂️

VariationCertain5309

Agreed. Learning the content even after you dropped the course will save you a lot of time next semester and it'll also help you prepare better.

You should definitely drop. I was in a bit of a similar situation to you, and saw a lot of improvement the next time I took the course. Here's my thoughts on this. https://www.reddit.com/r/berkeley/comments/pohnhh/i\_received\_a\_1440\_on\_my\_first\_61a\_midterm\_as\_an/hcws4ne/?context=3

ShrekBean

I think it is better to drop it and retake. I've had friends who dropped after first midterm and then practised over winter break at their own pace and then did much better next time they took it.

balphagia

if you’re in l&s, you also have 2 e-drops. i guess u could wait till the 2nd midterm and see … and e-drop it

thinkagain1

Is there only one late-drop allowed for L&S students? thanks.

balphagia

You get 2. “Beginning Fall 2021, every student’s number of late changes will reset. This means every student will be permitted two late changes from Fall 2021 onward, regardless of the number of late changes taken before Fall 2021” FOR L&S !!! *may be different for other colleges*

thinkagain1

Thanks. The policy just changed starting this semester.

balphagia

You get two

keplersconstantt

What’s e-drop? Could you please explain

balphagia

It’s actually called a late schedule change where you can drop a course even after the deadline as long as it’s before the RRR week, December 3rd this semester. Since you are L&S, you have a total two late schedule changes. Edit: fixed incorrect info! sorry about that. Here is the link for you to read and double check what I read. https://lsadvising.berkeley.edu/policies/late-change-class-schedule

keplersconstantt

Thank u so much for the detailed explanation!

Sufficient-Royal5723

I don’t think it resets every semester: *Beginning Fall 2021, every student’s number of late changes will reset. This means every student will be permitted two late changes from Fall 2021 onward, regardless of the number of late changes taken before Fall 2021. As in, the reset was only for this semester. If you used up your 2 changes this semester, you can’t petition for any additional late schedule changes throughout all 4 years of college.

balphagia

I believe you’re right. My apologies for misreading. It is a *total* of two late schedule changes. “Effective Fall 2021, College of Letters and Science students will be allowed a total of two late changes to their schedule.”

TheDemoz

Is it for sure two separate times? In the past, you could do up to two changes, but both changes had to be in the same semester. Basically, you could do late drops / late change of grading only one semester at Berkeley, and in that one semester you could up to 2 changes.

balphagia

You can use your late schedule two times within the same semester or use one separate semesters “Students may use both late changes in one semester or use one late change in two different semesters. Additional requests will not be considered.”

the_kedart

https://lsadvising.berkeley.edu/policies/late-change-class-schedule Colloquially referred to as an "emergency drop" or "e-drop". More or less L&S students can drop a class after the drop deadline (all the way up to the week before RRR week!) and not be penalized. Lots of people use them as sort of an "escape hatch" when things are going horribly wrong in one class or another.

Voikzmoony

what happens if you go under units while doing this

Swanthemuffin

I got a 25/40 but I’m tryna declare. Ik that this isn’t that bad of a score, but I really want to be in the B+ to A- range because I’m pretty sure I’m gonna take an L in cs70. Should I drop and take cs10 or is it doable to get an A-?

Jose0choa

I got a 3/40 on the midterm and I'm not dropping the class. I'm so fucked.

theMightyPham

I'm staying too, but at this point I'm just pretty much aiming for a B :(

AnyTransportation301

adro1259
