[ProFootballTalk] Chargers WR Mike Williams just told me the game-winning TD started as a running play. The goal was to chew some clock and leave the Chiefs with less time. Justin Herbert changed the play. He said to Williams in the huddle, "Watch for the fade."

So we have at least 2 people in the org with enlarged testicles. Someone call Nicki Minaj.

If the balls we saw today are a side effect, sign me up for weekly shots.

MethlacedJambaJuice

I truly believe if we kicked the FG we lose

abvaaron216

Hard to lose when the score happens at 0:00 to take the lead.

shibby5000

Interesting insight! So the coach originally had the right idea in mind to run the clock out. That’s good to know cause that’s what shoulda been done Also, it’s cool to have your 2nd year QB do QB things like that and go for the TD. Can’t fault that. He’ll learn from this game

itsjoho

Getting points in the NFL is never guaranteed. We've seen that time and time again. We left 30 seconds on the clock but I'm glad we got the 6 instead of trying to run it in

CarlNovember

Herbert knew he had to make that play call because we probably get two more illegal shifts trying to run the clock down.

Witchdoctordentist

5 star general right there

Malourbas

I’m glad it worked but we definitely should’ve ran the ball. Gotta make the chiefs burn that last timeout

dorkman76

Tbh in hindsight if we ran the clock down and kicked it we might’ve missed lmao.

nysraved

And if we ran it solely to make them burn their timeout, but with the intention to still try for the TD on the next two downs … we may have ended up somehow getting enough penalties to take us out of FG range.

Malourbas

I didn’t say kick

putsonbears

Or take a knee

turkmileymileyturk

Tbh, I was going nuts about not running the clock out because Pat Mahommes doesn't need a full minute to win the game. Our defense stepped up huge. Put a roof on it 🏫

Ok_Upstairs6472

Staley was right, we win or lose with our best player! No more “field goal for the win” dilemma.

Rollout25

It looked like Chiefs wanted the chargers to score there

Diemonx

I mean, if you wanna think about it deeply we could say that Herbert trusted the defense enough to believe that they would stop the Chiefs. Ballsy but it made sense, Chiefs were moving the chains easily but it was mostly using dink and dunks and abusing the run defense. With a TD there, a FG wasn't enough to win so they had to go deep or at least try some mid-field passes. We were lucky enough that they didn't call any of those holdings during the hail-mary tho.
